New USB-C Cable and Adapter For Starlink Mini Power Banks
Until now, if you wanted to use the Starlink Mini, which is an impressive satellite internet dish that weighs less than a laptop and fits easily into a backpack, you would need a large power bank to power it.starlink mini power bank Elon Musk’s space internet company, Starlink, has addressed that issue by introducing a USB-C cable and adapter that work with some portable power banks. The kit cuts down on power requirements, which makes it ideal for off-grid travel.
This cable connects directly to the Starlink Mini with a USB-C plug on one end and a standard 12-volt cigarette lighter socket on the other.starlink mini power bank It works with some portable power banks that can output 60 watts or more, which is the maximum input the Starlink Mini supports. It’s also designed to be able to handle 12-volt vehicle battery voltages, which means it could run off your RV or camper battery on a road trip.
In addition to the new cable, Starlink now offers a $45 car adapter that fits into a standard automotive 12-24V auxiliary power outlet commonly found in cars. This is perfect for those who plan to take their Starlink Mini backpacking and boondocking in remote locations, where finding a two-prong power outlet isn’t always easy.
Both the new cable and power adapter are well-weatherized for outdoor use. The plug and cable are rated to resist falling rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, and splashing water. They also include a TVS diode on the input DC-DC converter to clamp down the input voltage to the recommended 60 watts or less. The pcb for the input DC-DC converter (BSZ146N10LS5) has additional reverse polarity protection parts that don’t show up on the datasheets, but they may be similar to the back to back connected mosfets used in other high-voltage applications.
In my tests, the Starlink Mini with a 24,000mAh Anker PowerBank (which can output up to 100 watts) can give you about four hours of internet connectivity before it needs to be recharged. That’s enough time to get online and stay in touch during an emergency or while hiking in a wilderness area. If you want to keep going for several days, you’ll need a larger power bank or solar panel.
